"Let the clubhead win"
A great swing to get rid of your slice is letting the clubhead win therace through the impact zone. What I mean by this is...
In normal situations, players will gradually start to open their hips and shoulders as the club is nearing impact. After impact, the hips and shoulders will continue to clear as the clubhead approaches waist level. Both the timing of the clubhead and the movements of the body coordinate together.
This is a general rule of thumb for most swing structures. But the problem is that, often times, the body out-races the clubhead. In other words, the hips and shoulders begin to clear too early on the downswing, and the clubhead is left behind. When this happens, the clubface is left wide open at impact, which causes a slice.
Therefore, I like to tell players to feel as though they let the clubhead swing past the body before the body opens up. Their chest should feel like it faces the ball at impact and holds that position until the clubhead is at waist level on the follow through, with the toe of the club pointing to the sky.
This is one of my favorite swing thoughts and I use it quite often. To enhance this thought, I feel like the clubhead "slings" past my body through the impact zone. This gets my clubface squaring up, which stops the slice and will also store the power longer in my swing by keeping my upper body squarer to the ball.
Another way to feel this is to keep your eyes on the ball for a split second longer after impact. This will prevent the body from opening too fast and winning the race.
You have two things racing toward impact and through impact: the rotation of your body and the swing of the clubhead. If the body rotation wins, you will likely hit a slice or a push. If the clubhead wins, you will hit a nice powerful draw.
